The Beach House with the Famous Red Kitchen

Recognize this red kitchen? I bet you do. Not only has it appeared in several magazines--it has been posted on just about every design blog on the Internet (including Hooked on Houses!). Here it is from Southern Accents:

I'd like to know two things: 1) Why do the "red lacquer" cabinets look more like hot pink in the magazine shot? And 2) If there are professional magazine photos of this house, why didn't the Real Estate agent use them? The pics on the MLS listing are kind of pitiful, actually, for a house that has been photographed so beautifully in the past. Here are a few of the other rooms from this house on Rosemary Beach (Florida):

This beach house is on the Gulf and has a water view, which you can see in the MLS listing. It's on the market for $4.5 million. So if you ever wished you could have that bold red kitchen, now's your chance!

  1. Not sure how I feel about a red kitchen. Definitely unique.

  2. I have actually never seen this kitchen before -or I've forgotten if I have. I love it. And how fabulous to be right on the gulf with a water view!

  4. I don't mind the red kitchen (it wouldn't be my first choice of color but it's not bad) that avocado vanity and mirror on the other hand, would be repainted in five minutes!

  5. Ok...I've clearly been under a rock. Haven't seen it before (or don't remember it like Christy above). The SA photo IS much better. The other photos are not too flattering.

4.5 clams? Hold on, let me count my change.

    Nope. Don't have it. Sigh.

  6. Way to colorful for me. I like a much more quiet and calming color palette.

  7. I like Red. But, kind of feel that this much Red in my Kitchen, would be too much for me.

But that's just me! I love it that others do what I'd not necessarily be able to do.

And as always, thank you so much for sharing with us.

  8. Did not realize this was in Rosemary Beach. We visited there last summer. It's beautiful, but might be a little overpriced for the neighborhood :)

  9. I actually haven't seen it before! I hope I have enough guts to paint something so bold and so permanent at some point! I'd probably get it up and change my mind!

  10. I was wondering what I was gonna spend my 4.5 million dollars on...now I know;) Thanks for sharing those bold photos. The kitchen is really cool, but I'm afraid I might get tired of the color...then what??

  11. Unless a real estate agent is an ex artist or a creative person then they never get the house photos right. This kitchen is so uplifting.

  12. I have to say, I am not digging the red kitchen...but it could be very mental - it's the beach! If I want colored cabinets at the beach, I want shabby!

  13. first of all, what a fantastic space! i love the high ceilings, large windows and the huge balcony! and look at all those cabinets in the kitchen! love it!

as for the colours though... i’m not digging any of them. the red is way too much... the avocado green (i think modernmama was being nice here)... and the two different greens in the bedroom... mmm... not me at all. but to the owners’ credit, i have to say bravo for being brave and expressing their spirits so flamboyantly! kudos for their courage.

ps. maybe they got tired of the red kitchen too... and figured it would be simpler to sell the house then repaint all those cabinet! hee hee... (wouldn’t surprise me!)

pss. the issue of colour in photography is always an easy fix nowadays in photoshop. there truly are no reasons why those cabinets should ever look pink but pure laziness. (it’s a 5-minute job max)
