Country Living featured this Long Island cottage recently that caught my eye. Homeowner Donna Francis says she wanted to "keep it simple" in her cottage, so she went with black, white, and silver when decorating her home.

I thought this black and white bedroom was really striking:

Doesn't it cost a lot to get the things for these houses ... I'm just saying ... I'd Love to have my house look like that but in real life ... real life things ... go in it ... instead.
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy looking at the photos you show us and dreaming ...
I like the simplicity. And with random splashes of color, to perk it up.
ReplyDeleteI like her dress too...

I really appreciate the restraint it takes maintain a "Keep it Simple" a look. I read this article & While I wouldn't go with these exact colors I found the article inspiring. The clean lines approach Donna Francis uses in her house works for me!! Great post. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Julia,
ReplyDeleteI especially like the bedroom - simple or rather uncluttered and elegant (simple sounds too simple) - anyway.
And in order to answer on JC's comment - if I may do so - I don't think that it must cost a lot of money to create interiors such as these ones - you just need a bit fantasy, common sense, a good instinct and an eye for certain things to create similar interiors.
Greetings, Petra
It's too simple for me, but I'm not a fan of black and silver.
ReplyDeleteI like the kitchen cabinets though.
Hi Julia
ReplyDeleteThis was a beautiful blog! I'm inspired by all the beach homes you are featuring. I live close to the ocean myself, and I think the airy, light, white, New England style homes are such an inspiration. I'm hooked on homes myself so I'm now going to visit your other blog as well;)
I'm completely new in Blogworld (just 2 weeks), but I would love for you to come visit me too at

Greetings from Norway!
Very beautiful, simple and clean-lined...Oh, and VERY Long Island. Swoon.
ReplyDeleteOh I love the bedroom at the end and the chairs in the kitchen. Just beautiful:)
ReplyDeleteJust dreaming of a nice cottage by the sea like this is nice....whether black or white or not!
ReplyDeleteI picked up this same issue of country living and couldnt put it down, great inspirational images!! absolutely obsessed with white kitchens right now too!!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I am hooked on this house too. Absolutely stunning. I don't know why, but I never thought that black would work well in a cottage. But it sure does, and it looks great.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend, Julia.
The bedroom is striking but my eyes can't take it for long. It many just be the striped pillow that make my eyeballs vibrate. I'll bet is more fun in person.
ReplyDeleteI love those dining room chairs. Not practical for me in my home, but would be cute in my sunporch. ~ Robyn
ReplyDeleteHi Julia - love that bedroom! So chic! Thank you for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Marie

Very pretty. It looks like a very serene & relaxing home. Stylish, but welcoming too :-)

I love the white kitchen! Nice, clean and crisp.
ReplyDeleteLove black and white too. But then again, would love a beach cottage more.
ReplyDeleteLove those dining chairs! And that kitchen (drooool)!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it. I think she has lots of texture in her home, so it doesn't seem austere. Stop by my blog, I'm hosting a giveaway (as you know). :)
ReplyDeleteI almost added this to my Black and White and Kelly Green post from High Point highlights. Love it. My new house has a guest bedroom with green walls. I'm gathering all of my black and white stuff (of which I have plenty)to go in there. It is my first time to have a guest bedroom that isn't dual function. I just love that bedroom above. It made me buy the mag.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the black and white bedroom!!! So sharp and clean!
ReplyDeleteI love the classical simplicity of Black & White ... thanks for posting these pics!
ReplyDeleteI like the simplicity. So sharp and clean!
ReplyDeleteperfectly lovely!
ReplyDeleteAs much as some would balk at a limited colour palette, the simplicity sure does allow the beauty of the individual peices shine.
ReplyDeleteThat farmhouse table with the metal light and metal chairs--luv it!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful - especially the bedroom. I can't say I have seen black and white too often in a bedroom, but it is dramatic and very effective!
ReplyDeleteOh Julie you find the best pictures what a gorgeous home love it all but loving the kitchen I could see myself in that kitchen!
ReplyDeleteI would have to take a month off from work and hire minions to make the shore house look that simple. :-) Isn't it gorgeous?!
