Let the Sun Shine In

I'm in a yellow kind of mood. I find myself ripping pictures out of magazines and catalogs like these that have pops of bright, sunshiny color.

I came "thisclose" to buying this yellow cabinet from IKEA recently. Looking at it now makes me think I might just have to go back and get it. Surely I can find someplace in my house for it?

And I love this chair from Anthropologie. Hmmm. Where, oh, where, could I use a yellow chair?

Do you have a certain color that's been calling to you lately?

I've read a couple of books about color theory that say that when you're craving a color, it represents something that's lacking in your life. Like light blue represents creativity (which is why I painted my home office light blue recently!). Purple means you have a longing for spirituality. And yellow, as I recall, stands for communication.

P.S. I'm giving a tour of the Queen Anne Victorian home used for "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" over at my other blog today. If you've ever been curious about what it actually looked like inside, take a look!

  1. I love it! Funny isn't it, I wouldn't have said that yellow was my colour but it is so refreshing - and that Ikea cupboard is fabulous....am tempted to check out my local one to see if they have one!

  3. Yellow is so bright and cheerful! We don't have much yellow around here, but my previous house had wonderful, buttery golden walls. Loved it! I still love how warm the color feels.

  7. I get yellow cravings round about March. I make it through most of the winter and then I NEED something summery to brighten my mood, and yellow does it every time.

  8. There's a lot of yellow in my house... I especially love the way the light changes in my living room as the sun shines through the golden-yellow curtain panels... makes me happy every day. (and, yes, go get that cabinet!)

  11. Love that cabinet! I need to frequent IKEA more often. Or not. I like, not love, yellow. I never seem to pick the "right" yellow, so I am a little leary. I have been craving black. What do you think that means??

  14. Christagirl, I looked it up, and apparently craving the color black means you're longing for "self-power." Take that for what it's worth! -Julia :-)

  17. Yellow has always been my favorite color for as long as I can remember. When I was very young, my mother used to tell me, when you grow up, you will change your mind and find another color to love. It never happened! How can someone not love the color of the sun, daisies, the moon and happiness. It's a great color and you should go back to Ikea and get that gorgeous dresser.....I will have to go check that one out myself! Char

  27. Oooh, yellow is such a happy color! Love your post. I have been craving red for about 3 years now. I wonder what craving red means that I am lacking? I wrote a similar post a while back about my love for Red:

  28. I love the wee jug photo, and that's one of my IKEA faves as well! My kitchen cabinets are white and so are the walls, but the wall tiles have primary coloured hearts and birds, and the curtains are yellow checked with red, blue and green; that means I can buy accessories in any of those colours and the curtains pull everything together. I recently bought myself a yellow silicone spatula and chopping board. I do think it's the craving for sunshine!
