I know this blog is called Beach Cottage Love, but the truth is that I love all cottages, everywhere! I've been to England a couple of times, and one of the highlights for me was seeing old cottages like this one, which is near Bath in Wiltshire.
The listing states that this 3-bedroom home, and most of the others in its village, date back to the 13th century. Doesn't it look cozy?
It sits on the bank of the River Avon, beside what is described as "the ancient bridge." Does that mean it's been around since the 13th century, too?
All of this history and charm comes with what seems like a very reasonable price tag: £395,000. I'm afraid it won't seem quite as good a deal if we convert that to U.S. dollars, however (so let's not bother).Want to go in on it with me?

I am such a sucker for a vine-covered, thatched-roof cottage! Sure. Yes! Let's go! (but when we get there, those televisions have to be put into some kind of cupboard... they're killin the vibe!)

ReplyDeleteOHH I love England, I have been a couple times too and hands down it is one of my favorite places to visit!! I went to Bath as well, and I can agree that the little cottages there are simply amazing...so cozy and filled with history and love....all the homes are so different then what I am used to, I am in awe most of the trip! Love their little pubs too! **wink wink
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved the cottage that Kate Winslet lived in in the movie The Holiday (with Cameron Diaz). This adorable cottage looks so similar!! They could be sister houses. Love it!!
ReplyDeleteI love all cottages too! Beach cottages are my favorite if the beach is right there but if not I love English cottages. Thay are so charming and quaint and I love how the roofs look!

ReplyDelete13th century??? I'm completely dumbfounded that it could have been around for so long and wonder what all has happened in that adorable home for more years than the US of A has been in existence. It's hard to imagine yet I'm already daydreaming.....cottage bliss.

I can attest this is indeed a lovely part of England. The price tag does seem high, but thatched cottages are not that common even in Britain so that's probably why.
ReplyDeleteGreat point, AlwaysMe, about getting the bed up the stairs - Ikea furniture is such a blessing because it can be assembled at its destination!
The only other slight snag is all the spiders which live in a thatched roof. Guess where they like to spend winter - all cozied up inside with the occupants. :)
We're in! Cut that cottage into several shares, and we could do it. :-)

Lovely old OLD cottage! I'd even cohabit with those winter spiders if I could spend some time in this place. It's beyond charming.
