Vanity Envy

I've always wanted a pretty little vanity like this one from Cottage Living, but I've never had one. Have you? I'm usually putting my makeup on as I run out the door (or at stoplights on the way!). The idea of sitting down and having the leisure time to primp sounds appealing to me on this busy Monday morning.

P.S. Over at Hooked on Houses, you can see photos of Hugh Grant's house with the blue door from the movie Notting Hill--and see what color it's painted now!

  3. I love vanities, too! I actually got one a few years back and then repainted it during my room makeover. You can see it here: http://www.in-a-dream.org/2009/09/06/home-room/

I really like white ones though, but that didn't match my room.

  4. I'd love to have a charming vanity area full of pretty little things——but only to look at. Hair and makeup and such are not my favorite things to linger over. I'd rather get in, get out, and get on with my day!

  5. Oh yes, I've always wanted a vanity area! Nothing like sitting and primping away! This one here is great too, with all that natural light facing you. Way better than any bathroom mirror!

  9. I have always wanted one of these too, but I don't wear much makeup (although I should)...having a place to display my treasures...vanity mirrors, etc...would be really fun!

  10. I had the best vanity in my childhood home, It was a built in I had in my room and it was flanked by 2 awesome chest of drawers that were also built ins, I still wish I could go down the street to moms house and put my make up on...Im sure she would totally adore it.

This, however, would do in a pinch, Jules.
    its cute!

  11. My vanity is an old school desk with the bench attached, and over it I have a cheapo bathroom cabinet with triple mirror doors and matching row of makeup lights. I don't love the mirrored cabinet or lights, but they work and are tucked in behind a bookcase. Maybe paint would help.

I am WAY too shortsighted to lean in over a sink to do my makeup in a bathroom...

  12. What a charming vanity! I have always had a vanity, there is something very retro chic about sitting at your vanity and carefully applying a deep red shade of lipstick. Perhaps I just have warm memories of my grandmother and her vanity but either way, I love it when a room as one.

  13. Yes, I've always wanted one! One day I will sit and put on make up. I just hope it's before I have to sit because I'm 90 years old!

  14. Oh I love vanities... had one from the 1920s in the guest room of the house I grew up in, but have never had one in a house of my own.

I've been looking on Craigslist or Ebay for a vanity or ladies' desk I can turn into a vanity for our pink guest room -- no luck yet! Although today I found an interesting desk for $35, so maybe I can spring for that and give it new life!

  15. I'm afraid I'm not a dressing table kind of gal. I have a few shelves of my very own inside the cupboard in the en suite bathroom, but the make-up comes out, goes on, then gets put straight away. I'm on a mission to cut down on dusting, limit horizontal dumping grounds and increase the sense of space and free flowing air in my home. I long to create that holiday home feeling, and when I'm on holiday, my makeup simply lives in a wee bag on a shelf with my perfume and toiletries.

I love to see pretty corners like this in other folks' homes and in photos, though. Keep the inspiration coming!

  17. We had a built-in vanity in our master bath. But we had it filled it with more cabinets to use the space better. That one in the photo is a real cutie though.

  18. Jackie W--I've never heard that word before and don't know what it means, but I'd hope I'd never do it in polite company. Ha.

Don't worry, I only put on makeup when someone else is driving. -Julia :-)

  19. Hi Julia!
I love vanities too. I actually got one when I was 16 and I had a makeup mirror and everything! I still have the vanity, it's an antique and I have it in my living room. I don't think I will ever get rid of it!

  20. I am a huge fan of vanities. There is something so luxurious about sitting down at one to get ready in the morning. I think it's crazy to lean over your bathroom counter to do your hair and makeup! Thanks for sharing!
