Seawatch: The Coastal Living Idea House

Coastal Living Idea House 09 exterior

Have you seen Seawatch, Coastal Living's 2009 Idea House? I think the exterior is beautiful. I really love some of the rooms, like the kitchen:

Others, like the master bedroom, are a little much for me:

I'm just not crazy about those colors together, even though I realize it's the trendy thing now. And that scary sun over the bed would have to go. (I love the bed itself, though!)

Head over to Coastal Living to take the tour. What did you think of it?

  1. It's a beautiful home! Love the exterior. I like the bedroom colors and think it's a sophisticated room (at least it WAS until they added that scary sun thing! :-)) I think sometimes designers just get bored with having things "normal" so they have to throw in something that no one else would have done. Thanks for sharing the photos!

  2. Beautiful exterior and kitchen but I would get those white stools away from the stovetop spatter! And the sun on the mirror wouldn't be as scary if the pelmet and draping were removed and they were simply hung on the wall over the headboard, imho. Off now to take a peek at the rest...

  3. That sun IS a little too scary for me too. But I love the light-filled kitchen. :) The exterior is drop dead gorgeous. :)

  4. Yikes! Seems the room would have been just fine without the canopy all together. I'm not a fan of the yellow/gray trend but it's cute here.

  5. I agree, that bedroom is a little hard to digest...is that a stripe I detect above the window? Wonder if they go all around the room, yikes! I love the kitchen though...always good to see a man in the kitchen ;o)

  6. funny, i thought the same thing about the sun mirror before reading what you wrote....
looked at the link and i think my favorite thing about this house is the exterior elevation and the outside kitchen.
    dreamy!

  7. Yeah, not really loving that bedroom, but the home exterior and kitchen are gorgeous!

  8. In that bedroom, I think if you take out all the other colors and just leave the wall color and the white of the furnishings, it might look really good. I would have no problem redoing a room or two for that house.

  9. I rally like it, it is a little different from what I would usually go for but it kind of grew on me after taking the tour.

  10. Hi There,
    Another great post!
Thanks for sharing the Coastal Living House.
I also think the exterior is Beautiful. Yes, I agree there are a few "different" ideas in the "idea" house, but I believe variety is the spice of life;)
    Happy Halloween,
    Jill

  11. The exterior is awesome, but I don't like anything about the interior. It's ugly!

I'd think you could order it from anywhere, but I don't really know. You can probably find out on their website (link above). -Julia

  14. Def have mixed feelings about it. Love the screened porch, the guest suite and the sleeping porch. There was way too much purple in the study/guest room and the master was way too over the top for me.

  15. Love the exterior but the interior feels overdone. I suspect you and I would opt for a much 'simpler' beach house, given the choice. Thanks for sleuthing around and finding all of these photos for us. Every thought we have about them, good or bad, strengthens our own sense of identity and style.

  17. The colors in that house are terrible--it seems to really have a 70's era feeling. I liked the home, but the color choices I think will be something you'd regret later. Except the guest suite. Loved the outdoor kitchen.

  18. I love the kitchen and the bed. Not the face. Your right it would have to go. But I would take the house anyway it came if someone would give it to me. It is wonderful.

  19. I did love some of the rooms, but some just weren't appealing to me. Not that I disliked them, but just not for me. Love the exterior though.

  20. Hi Julia, just had to stop by and tell you I hope your grandmother is doing better!

  21. Sorry, not a fan of this one. The kitchen is too black. The bedroom is too 60's. The exterior looks like it is "trying not quite hard enough" to look old or new.

  22. Debbie--
My grandma just had her 2-week post-op checkup and the doctor was surprised by how well she's doing. He admitted that he didn't think she'd even survive the surgery. We're very glad to still have her with us! Thanks for asking. -Julia :-)

  24. I agree with you that the bedroom is a bit much. I love how bright and sunny the exterior is (and the kitchen is nice, too).

  25. I did the virtual tour of the house this morning. It disappointed my simple tastes. But it had it's moments.

Give me the simple life ;-)

  26. I agree with the poster who said the colors seem 1970s---been there and done that---and was glad when it was over. I'm not loving this house. The exterior is very attractive, but the interior seems to be designed by designers really looking for something different. In my opinion, whoever lives there will tire of it fast and redecorate in a more classic way. Thumbs down from me.

  28. got tickled about the "scary" sun....but i agree! would have to go!!
i recently did a blog about those colors...i have to agree , at first i did NOT like them, but they grew on me , the more and more i'd see them (i guess i was a "fashion slacker" on that one for awhile)....I finally DID start liking them slowly until i finally blogged about the colors in a vignette!
I like them in other people's spaces, but i personally couldn't live with that color scheme in my house...but it was fun to blog on it!

  30. i saw this in the mag and thought the same thing about the bedroom. but that kitchen? delish!

  31. love the kitchen and the guest room but the master was too mustardy and the lavender room - no thanks.

  32. No, I have not seen!! Believe it or not, I do not get that magazine...kind of shocking even to me!...but I'll definitely head over to the web site to check it out. I can tell you that I am in lovvvveee with that kitchen! It's so much less "fussy" than the kitchens I'm seeing. I like a utilitarian kitchen myself...and utilitarian can still be beautiful!

Now the bedroom...that's a bit too fussy. :-)

  33. The house is nice, but it seems like they went a bit overboard with all the fabric and long drapery.

  34. Hi there! Thank you for the sweet comment on the signs. I love the house but Im with you,the bedrooms are a bit too much. Hope you are enjoying your fall~

  35. you are right- the outside is beautiful... the inside- a little much... just doesn't seem to match up!
